Fantasy football works like this - every participant or owner, as called in the fantasy sports world, drafts or buys through an auction team of players. During this article example we are going to assume we are talking about an NFL football league although it could easily be based upon college players as well. The way the real completion plays out will depend on the individual fantasy football league you belong too. With some fantasy football leagues, the winner is determined by total points at season end. While others, actually play against each other weekly. The team having the best record at the end of the season is declared winner of that league.
The internet has helped to take fantasy football from just a hobby played out in sports bars or homes to a multi-million dollar industry. Nearly twenty million players participate in fantasy sports with an industry growth rate of approximately ten percent. Fantasy football is one of the most known fantasy sports available and continuing to grow even faster with the explosion of websites and software available online today.
Most leagues will be made of ten or twelve individual teams that have their own mock drafts prior to the start of the season. Because you draft real players and their performance matters, it pays to stay in touch with what is going on during preseason and off season. In some fantasy games each owner drafts a new member every year while others may be allowed to keep a handful of players which will not enter into the draft. Players that are not drafted are designated ‘free agents’ and they may be chosen during the season by trading players that an owner has currently and making them free agents.
