Perhaps you are a long-distance bike writer and thrill seeker? And now you have considered biking across the United States of America. Perhaps you have checked out all the different two words that will help you along the way where you pay them a fee and they have a road crew that follows you and have already set up the itinerary in advance. You would be riding with another group of riders and perhaps even raising money for charity, which is a very good idea too.
Personally I looked into doing this and then I found out that the average ride was 70 to 100 miles per day and quite frankly that is a little less than I had planned to do, as I would like to ride 130 to 250 miles per day. So I cannot go with that group, as it would take me forever I would like to do it in three weeks. But is it possible to do it in three weeks? I think it is and
although I do not know who holds the record for crossing the United States by bicycle I bet it is somewhere around three weeks perhaps a little less.
The best route for crossing the United States as fast as possible would be going from San Diego to Jacksonville, Florida. Why you ask? Well for one there are a whole lot of less hills to go over and you can almost do at any time during the year. Additionally there is usually a pretty good wind at your back the entire way as long as you go from West to East. Perhaps you'll consider this in 2006.
