North Woodstock, NH - One man's campsite is another man's castle, and camping in New Hampshire's White Mountains can mean sleeping under the stars or enjoying microwave popcorn as you laugh along with Jay Leno. It can mean toting your tent over rivers and through the woods or pulling up to a 4-way hookup in the center of a full service RV (recreational vehicle) resort. "The beauty of camping is that it lets you create the vacation of your dreams, exactly to your family's specifications," said Dick Hamilton, President of the White Mountains Association. "You want solitude, we've got solitude. You want amenities, there are campgrounds that rival the biggest resort hotels for facilities, programming and landscaping." New Hampshire's White Mountain Region is blessed with more than 60 campgrounds with a whopping total of 5,000 sites. The White Mountain National Forest alone offers more than 800 sites for simple tent camping. These sites are available on a reservation basis by calling 800-280-CAMP. New Hampshire State Park campgrounds in the White Mountains include the popular and well known Lafayette Place with direct access to many hiking trails and relatively unknown alternatives such as Moose Brook Campground in Gorham where there is a kiddie playground and a unique stream fed swimming area. Reservations for NH State Park campgrounds may be made by calling a central reservation office (603) 271-3628 (Mon through Fri, 9 am to 4 pm.) Private campgrounds abound in the White Mountains and are conveniently located for fishing, attractions, hiking and general recreation. Campers may easily locate a campground in the region that that they plan to visit by using an interactive map at the White Mountain Association's website (www.visitwhitemountains.com). Listings are displayed by "clicking" on the name of the town a person wants to visit. The White Mountain Guidebook, a 4-color directory published by the White Mountain Association, offers descriptions and contact information on campgrounds as well as attractions and other activities. The Guidebook is useful for non-web users and is also a handy "carry along" guide to bring on the vacation. The White Mountain Guidebook and its companion "Map & Guide" are available by calling the White Mountain Welcome Center at 800-346-3687. Additional travel resources are offered by the State of New Hampshire at www.visitnh.gov. About the author: Press Release
